LIGHTENING BUG - Brass Ring Track on LP The Disadvantages of You DCC 50017 (US.1967) John Edward had previously worked on Radio City as Johnny Flux.

TOM EDWARDS (City & Caroline)

a) WIGWAM - Ted Heath and his Music Decca F11727 (June 1963).

b) SKYLINER - Mitch Murray Clan Clan  597001 (UK.1966) It is possible that Tom may have also used a version of Skyliner by Frank Chacksfield. Also used by Ross Randall and Willy Walker

c) LAS VEGAS SCENE - Wes Dakus & the Rebels Swan 4206 (USA.1965) Used by Tom on Caroline South. According to fellow Caroline DJ Keith Hampshire, the track is also on the same LP as Keefers theme, and that the "echo" intro to the on-air version was done by Robbie Dale.

KENNY EVERETT (London)

THE STRIPPER -  David Rose & his Orchestra MGM 1158 (1962) English born Hollywood composer and conductor David Rose wrote "The Stripper" for a show called Burlesque. He wrote eight bars and let the band play around it, the impromptu idea topped the charts. David Rose, who died in Los Angleles aged 80 in August 1990, recorded more than 50 albums, scored 36 films and composed music for numerous TV series including Highway Patrol, Bonanza and Highway to Heaven.

JOHNNY FLUX (City)

SWEET DREAMS - The Shadows Track on EP The Boys Columbia SEG 8193 (1962 The EP of the film "The Boys" went to number one in the EP charts in November 1962, Johnny used the theme in his early shows. He later moved to Radio London using the name John Edward.

A WALK IN THE BLACK FOREST - Horst Jankowski Mercury MF861 (1965). Also used by Colin Nichol

GRAHAM GILL (London, Britain, 355, RNI & Caroline 70's)

a) WAY BACK HOME - Junior Walker and the All Stars Tamla Motown TMG 857 (1971). The B side of Way Back Home featured a semi instrumental version with only the chorus being sung. Graham Gill took that side and each night sang over it on the air, paying credit to the stations loyal fans.

b) SOUL COAXING (AME CALINE) - Raymond Lefevre and his Orchestra Major Minor MM559 (1968) Written by Michel Polnareff. Also used by Andy Archer and Martin Kayne

c) MAME - Herb Alpert & his Tijuana Brass A & M 823 (1966). Also track on LP - Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass Greatest Hits, A & M AMLS 980. The album was in the American charts for 6 weeks at the end of 1966.

JIM GORDON (Caroline North)

WIPE OUT - The Surfaris London HLD 9751 (1963). A million seller in 1963, the track was put togther by the teenage group of sax player Jim Pash aged 14, eighteen year old drummer Ron Wilson and sixteen year olds, leader and bass guitarist Pat Connolly, lead guitarist Jim Fuller and rhythm guitarist Bob Berry. Wipe out is surfspeak for being knocked off your surfboard. Also used by Paul Alexander and Mark Roman.

CRUEL SEA - The Dakotas  Parlophone R5044 (1963) Martin Green was a Dutch deejay on the station.

a) SIDEWINDER - Wes Dakus & the Rebels United Artists UA722 (US.1964) The B side of Pedro’s Pad. Both sides of the single were written by Morris James and produced by Norman Petty. Canadian Hampshire once briefly sang with the group, and recalls "I did have the opportunity to sing a couple of songs with them one summer at Sylvan Lake Alberta, but was never more than a featured guest"

b) DAVIDS MOOD - Jack Ely & the Courtmen Bang Records 520 (US.1966) The B side of Louie Louie. Jack Ely, or Eely as the record label states, was the singer with the Kingsmen of "Louie Louie" fame. After leaving the Kingsmen, he recorded this version of Davids Mood. It had previously been released as the B side of Little Latin Lupe Lu - Kingsmen Pye International 7N 25262 (1964).  The intro "Alright you guys, rise and shine" from Reveille Rock - Johnnie and the Hurricanes was dubbed on to the beginning of Keefer's theme. 

LEX HARDING (Veronica)

THE KID - Andre Brasseur CBS 2557 (1966) Early pressings of the original UK CBS single have "The Kid" on the B side, later pressings had "The Kid" on the A side. The only problem is that neither is really "The Kid", due to a pressing error by CBS in the UK, the theme "The Kid" is to be found on the sides marked "Holiday". Track on CD Andre Brasseur Best of 60 - 70 Silver Star AMC55.174 (BE.2001) Also used by Crispian St. John

Used by Rob on Caroline in 1979, the tune was better known as RNI's Boom tune with "R.. N.. I" sung in the brief gaps between the music. A similar idea was later used on Radio Mi Amigo.
