YOUNG   CONSERVATIVES

Financial Times
The "Financial Times" published a letter from Brian Waters of Boisot Waters Cohen Partnership, advertising agents in London SW1 on Monday 21st October 1985, he spoke of a recent advertising survey that managed "to avoid reference to the two most popular commercial radio stations broadcasting to Britain - Caroline and Laser". Back on the ship, it was party night on Sunday 20th, with the following line-up from 22.00 with Nigel Roberts until 22.50 when Neil Francis appeared and at 23.20 introduced from Radio Monique, Walter Simmons. At 23.50 Susan Charles came on, followed at 00.20 by Andy Johnson until 00.45. The weather report at 00.30 was shared by Nigel Roberts, Susan, Andy, Dave Andrews and Fergie all reading a short piece.

Young Conservatives
At 00.45 Fergie McNeil took over and played a record by the Untouchables called Laser show dedicated to "all our friends on Laser 558" complete with an American accent.

On the 22nd it was announced that the "Quit coughing" campaign would start on the 25th on Andy Johnson's show. A short break on 576 on the 23rd between 17.04 and 17.17 was noted and on the 25th the quit coughing campaign got underway with listeners suggestions on giving up smoking read out by Andy Johnson during his show. More support was given to the offshore radio stations by the Young Conservatives, who at their Eastern area annual conference at Felixstowe passed a motion abhorring the waste of money on the spyships, and affirming its support for free radio. During the early afternoon Neil Francis played a record for everybody on the Communicator, saying they were having a tough time at the moment, but also that it was nice to have neighbours.
