A TAKEOVER ?
On Tuesday 12th January 1988, the Communicator's Panamanian owners Cord
Cabo International placed three men on board to guard the ship after
threats of a takeover. However three days later, several boats carrying a
total of 40 men arrived, who after a struggle took over the ship. They
were representing one of the backers, evangelist Steven Morgan who had
planned to run "Harmony 981" from the Communicator. Morgan, who is
understood to have claimed he'd been ripped off financially, also has
interests in property development and had hired airtime on "Viewtime 963" during August and September 1987. Most of Morgan's men later left, leaving
a few of their number finely in charge of the ship, while on land, the
backer and owners acted to discuss the future of the ship. One plan was to
sail the ship to Spain to broadcast to tourists in the Balearic Islands,
however it was felt the ship was unfit for the journey.
On the 3rd February 1988, the future seemed to have been decided for them.
