THE LAST TESTS
Friday 30th January 1987 saw the station go off air abruptly at 07.25 and returning a short while later. It also saw the first signs of a possible change to the programming; at 09.42 John Lewis came on the air and said, "Welcome to test transmissions from Laser Hot Hits" and added that "regular programmes will commence shortly". Throughout the afternoon live announcements were made by Brandy Lee and D.L. Bogart. The signal strength had also been quite considerably increased since 09.00 that day. On the 31st they came on at 05.00 with continuous music, going off between 12.13 and 13.11 then more continuous music until John Lewis closed the station at 21.00, saying that the next day would be the last day of test transmissions.
On the 1st February 1987, Andrew Turner announced that the test transmissions had finished; Laser closed down at 12.00 noon with Andrew saying that they were getting ready for Laser's relaunch at 06.00am the next day and breakfast with Brandy, adding that "our deejays are all American, our music the hottest hits and our news the most up to date from our satellite to the USA". However they returned at 17.00 with a carrier that was heard on and off throughout the evening until Andrew Turner closed down for the day at 21.30
