IMPROVING THE SIGNAL
Laser returned again at 08.16 on the morning of Saturday 24th January 1987 with
more continuous music, until 12.19 when an American, probably D.L. Bogart,
said Laser was closing down for a short while for "signal improvements", they returned about half an hour later. At 18.11 Brandy Lee announced that
Laser would be back on the air at 06.00 on Sunday morning, "Thank you for
the music" by Abba was played at 18.58 and the station went off the air at
19.01. Laser was heard on Sunday 25th with continuous music and test
announcements every fifteen minutes; there were also test announcements in
Dutch as well as new Laser jingles. At 17.30 Brandy Lee announced a
closedown, they returned at 18.00 and at 18.55 they announced the close
for the day and after the Abba theme went off the air. On the 27th carrier
was logged as early as 04.45, Laser opened shortly before 06.00 with
continuous music, they went off before 09.00 and returned about 15.00,
being heard briefly around 13.35 with a carrier and a short excerpt of a
Pink Floyd record, the signal was very low and suffering from harmonics
from 558khz. At 18.23 an American, having read out the address for
reception reports commented, "I'd ask you to send food, but I don't thing
it could ever get to us". The station closed at 19.00 announcing that
they'd return at 06.00 next days. In fact they were heard at 05.45 playing
continuous music, they went off air some time after 16.00 and returned at
16.56, due to technical difficulties; they closed at 19.00 announcing a
return at 06.00 next day. On the 29th they didn't appear until around
15.30 playing continuous music with a few live requests for reception
reports. Programming finished at about 18.30 and continuous music was
played until closedown at 19.00.
