CIRCLING RADIO CAROLINE
The next day (2nd December 1986), John Anthony was on the air in the morning, he mentioned he was the only one aboard so we'd be hearing lots of him in the coming days, he was also promoting a "Laser is back" tee-shirt, saying that if they sold a million they wouldn't have to advertise and thus could have more music. At 11.26 there was a thirty second break and shortly after John gave out the numbers "62 and 20" for the office. At 11.38 he announced that the Captain was now sailing the ship along the Knock Deep and would soon be circling Radio Caroline. A short while after this they returned to continuous music until 13.25 when the station went off the air, they returned briefly for about 30 seconds at 14.40 and then were not heard again until 19.27 in the evening when John Anthony was presenting. He mentioned their earlier trip around the Ross Revenge and said they could only see "down" faces on board and no one was smiling, he gave out Carolines address and asked people to write in and cheer up the deejays. The transmitter power had been variable all week, with probably not more than 5kw going out at most times, although it is understood that on Tuesday 2nd, 21 kW was used, this high power was confirmed by reports from around Europe.More tests of varying power were heard later in the morning and in mid-afternoon new voice was heard, that of Paul Dean, who'd previously been heard on Laser 558 at the start and also on RNI under the name of Paul May. At 18.00 Andrew Turner appeared with a show until 20.00 followed by an American K.C. until 22.00 when John "Rock n'Roll" reappeared until midnight when an engineer took the station through to a 01.00 close.
