NEW OWNER
On Wednesday 16th April
1986, the Ipswich Evening Star revealed that the
former Laser ship had been sold for an undisclosed price to a mystery
buyer. They reported that the Admiralty Marshall had to choose between 13
offers for the ship, all the marshall would disclose was that it was an
English buyer who made the highest bid and that I do not know what the
ship will be used for, but it will have to be moved from the Stour. The
buyer has promised not to use it for illegal broadcasting and if he does
we will take action for breach of contract. A press release dated 21st
April revealed that Frinton based communications production company 'East
Anglian Productions' were the buyers of the Communicator. The following
day the Ipswich Evening Star was shown around the ship by EAP's Managing
Director Ray Anderson who said that ‘now we have got the ship there are a
number of options open to us. One thing is for certain, we cannot use it
for illegal broadcasts, that was a condition of the sale’. Ray added
‘I
see this vessel as a business proposition to make profit. I never expected
to buy it for my tender and though it would sell for much more’.
